So far I really enjoy Mass Effect 3

But im very frustrated with Bioware and EA.

EA has a long history of strangling the life out of RPG studios, and at this point, I dont think ill ever look at Bioware the same way again.

Mass Effect is one of my favorite games of all time.
It had great writing, good narrative and story, and deep and well rounded characters.
It was a little slow in the action department, but it was a heavy western RPG with Shooter elements, so im ok with that. The inventory system was also “meh,” but it was wonderfully well rounded over all.

Mass Effect 2 was the logical next step for a publisher like EA.
Fan complaints said ME1 was too slow and complex, so they immediately took out everything that made it an RPG, threw in some overly sexualized characters, and revamped the entire combat system.
The work on the combat system was a good move, and im not one to complain about some eye candy, but it wasnt an RPG anymore, and I struggle to compare the 2 games at all because of how drastically different they are.

So far in Mass Effect 3, Im finding a good balance of RPG and Shooter.
Like in the first game.

But BioWare did 2 things that make me livid.

1. There is no character interaction.
Half of why I loved the first 2 games what being able to interact with your squad members between missions. Now, its all canned dialogue, which sucks.
2. The galactic readyness bar is retarded.
I get that they want to blend Multiplayer and Singleplayer, but you dont do that by making it look like someones galaxy is only half ready even if you can still win because they didnt play multiplayer, you do it by allowing hot swapping C0-Op single player campaign.

Ill give more thoughts later, but im still up in the air about ME3.

‘nuff said.

‘nuff said.

Recording Studio Production

So I’m in my Recording Studio Production class…. Not paying attention to things that are probably going to be important to me as a SOund Engineer, but nevertheless, I’ve come to give you all a nice resource.

Here it is:

Those are notes to the Engineering section of my class. Woo hoo!

Long story short

Many people make the mistake of thinking they are a customer.

If its free to use, you arent a customer, you are the product being sold.

Facebook, youtube, and all other free online services are examples of this.
And many free non-online services are the same.

Audiophile in the making…

At first I was like:

And then I was like:

The reasons for this? I found out that my sister thought that Skullcandy and Apple’s own earbuds sound “good.” Boy was she misinformed. I gave her a quick example of what a good pair of headphones sounds like, using my own Sony MDR 7506’s. I also showed her, without explaining it so well, what compression does to a track of music. She barely understood, but thats ok. Once putting on my headphones, she determined that my headphones far and away blew hers out of the water. Of course, we were comparing earbuds with closed-ear headphones, so there was a bit of skewing in the quality. I told her that if she wanted a pair of great, inexpensive headphones (or earbuds, in her case) she should purchase a pair from JLab Audio off of Amazon.

My sister is going to become an audiophile in the making. I swear this to God.

TL;DR — My sister thought that shitty earbuds were good, and I recommended a few different pairs of headphones to help her out.

Skyrim on PC Release a Day early

If you will be playing Skyrim on a PC, looks like it unlocks for play on the 10th.

That is a day early compared to the 11/11/11 that is advertised.

What’s coming down the pipe

Now Tumblr is some kind of plumbing system. Anyway, I’m getting a hefty amount of review copies, so there will be nice, in-depth analyses of those games in the coming week.

Those are: Just Dance 3 (probably more fun than it should be), Modern Warfare 3 (here’s hoping it’s good), and Assassins Creed: Revelation (can’t….wait).

Also I’m buying Skyrim, but that’ll take me a loooong time to get through. But anyway, there will be some good stuff for sure :D

Petaflops

So I only just learned what a “flop” was (thanks to Adam)… and now this. Japan’s “K-computer” can perfrom 10 quadrillion operations. PER SECOND.

May I be the second to welcome our new computer overlords.

Another Apology and Dragon Age Origins

As with the other apologies, I too have been sick/busy with school and work lately!

To make this a tech post, I’ll talk about Dragon Age Origins…

In reference to my earlier post about “Open World Games,” I have to admit that I think that Dragon Age Origins (DAO from now on…) is a perfect blend of guided quests with an open world feel. I really like how the game mechanic works in that you have quests that you can do but don’t have to. Side quests, if you will. I like how the game has a “quick travel” mechanic, as this makes a lot of the tedious travelling quick and painless. As far as that goes, the mini encounters that happen randomly during the “fast travel” sections are fun, although they get repetitive over time.

More Class… Updates to come…

TL;DR

I am only 27 hours into DAO, And I still love the game. I can’t wait to keep playing it.

Rocksmith is a pretty legit game

So, as Adam has apologized, so shall I! I’ve been pretty hectic with life and such — you know how it goes. Know that even if I don’t post stuff on a daily basis here, I’ll have at least one gaming article a week to throw up. But, I did just get Uncharted 3, and will be getting Skyrim, and Assassins Creed Revelations, so there will be a lot to talk about in the coming weeks!

Anyway, as for this article, it’s about my experience with Rocksmith. Not a lot of critics have liked it, but I did. I mean, this is coming from someone who doesn’t know how to play guitar and has never had lessons. There’s an entirely good chance that this is not a good way to learn guitar — I don’t know. However, I did feel like I was getting real experience. Over time though, we’ll see. I don’t actually own an electric guitar so my play time is severely limited.

Okay well that’s it for now. Sorry for the dry spell!

Quick apology

for the slow down(and near total stop) in posting on this blog.

All of us(with the possible exception of myself) have lives outside of tumblr, and everyone but me is currently enrolled in school.

Ive also been going through a hectic period.

Hopefully we can all regain control of our lives soon, and make time to post occasionally on here.
